Why Do We Love the Magical Northern Lights?
What is it about the mysterious Northern Lights that fascinates us? Is it the ethereal glimmering that that they show to us when the conditions are just right?
What are they exactly?
The Vikings believed the Northern Lights illuminating the sky were the reflections of the Valkyries’ armor as they led the warriors to Odin. In other legends the Aurora was believed to be the Bifrost Bridge, a glowing arch which led fallen warriors into Valhalla.
The owner of an art gallery in Laguna Beach, California, told me that she believed they were the crown of God. Whatever you believe about them, they have been an inspiration to people for thousands of years and people travel thousands of miles just to see them. My guess is that elves love them even more than we do.
