Did you know that arctic foxes are Iceland’s only native land mammal?

They are also known as white fox, polar fox, or snow fox.

They are known for their beautiful white winter fur which changes to a variety of colors, from dark and light grey, charcoal brown, to bluish brown in warmer months.

They eat berries, birds, and eggs.

In winter, they will snow dive to catch their prey. They may even follow polar bears for their leftovers if they get really hungry.

It is said that they came to Iceland over a frozen bridge of sea ice during the Little Ice Age.

What color do you think their skin is under their fur?

A great place to photograph them is at Hornstrandir Reserve, in the Westfjords of Iceland, where the foxes may be easier to get close to.
